Frequently Asked Questions about Smart Switches
How to choose your smart switch?
Choose based on the number of desired functions (lighting, blinds, scenes), design (buttons or touch), brand compatibility with your KNX installation and your budget.
Can you replace a classic switch with a KNX switch?
Yes, but this requires an existing or new KNX installation. The wiring is different: the KNX switch connects to the KNX bus and not directly to the luminaires.
Are touch switches reliable?
KNX touch switches from major brands (Gira, Jung, Basalte) are very reliable with a lifespan of 15–20 years. They are less susceptible to faulty contacts than mechanical buttons.
How many switches for a house?
Count 1 to 2 switches per main room (entrance, living room, bedrooms) and presence detectors for transit areas (corridors, WCs). A 150m² house typically requires 10–15 KNX switches.
